UNIT 5
Current Artist Inspired-Han Tyumi
Status: Missing, went into kiln and hasn't returned
Background: The artist that I was inspired by was Jason Galea, he commonly does psychedelic style art- usually album covers. I chose to do a reoccurring character in his art, Han-Tyumi. He is a cyborg.
Construction: I started with a rectangle to put the eyes on. I added a rounded part to the rectangle to make the microphone mouth thing. I then sculpted a brain-like round shape and connected the two. I then underglazed it and put it in for the kiln.
Bust
Status: Final Firing
Planning: To make my bust I followed all the directions to make a bust that we were given, and decided to make the face like an ogre.
Construction: I started with a large cube of clay and slowly took away at the edges to build the shoulders, I kept as much as I could in the center for the head and neck. As I shaped the shoulders I also was able to make the collarbone and back muscles come through. Once I finished the general shape of the neck and head I started adding detail. Then I carved out the back of the head and filled it with newspaper, closed that up, carved out the bottom up to the neck and pulled the newspaper out.
Reflection: This project was really not the best it could have been because I was short on time. I spent a lot of time on another bust which was arguably better expression and shape wise, but it dried out one day and I couldn't finish it. This project was hard yet I'm still pretty proud of what I made.
Albrijes
Status: Missing, went for first firing weeks ago hasn't returned.
Planning/Construction: I followed the directions on how to make a frog on the wall, but since it was unclear on how to make the face I decided to make it a one eyed human mouthed evil toad. I then underglazed it colorfully.
